I haven't been on an adventure ride since April 2021, when on the second day of our New South Wales Outback Adventure, my participation came to a sudden, painful and somewhat ignominious halt. My new bike, courtesy of the new-for-old-clause in my insurance policy, arrived in June and I have slowly been doing the necessary mods to render it suitable for adventure riding.
You can imagine my delight when an email from David popped up, enquiring if any of the Politicians were interested in an eight day ride in Tasmania. As I have heard many wonderful stories about the attractiveness of the Apple Isle when considered from the vantage point of two wheels, I was keen to go. Leave pass duly obtained and suddenly, some of those things that were being approached at leisure have now become more urgent. That Rallye saddle is one item, Bark Busters another. But importantly, given my lack of off road experience since April, I have signed up for the BMW GS Adventure Training Course in Broadford at the end of February. Soft panniers which were also on my list were knocked off when my good friend David P (see other blog posts) gave me a pair that had once belonged to his Dad. His Dad was quite well known to me through BMWMCC VIC. A fine man who sadly is no longer with us. RIP, Don. And, you would not be surprised to hear, the matter of tyres is once again a topic of discussion. Those which came with my bike are adequate for sealed roads, although a bit twitchy in the wet. Buy my inherent Scottish thriftiness wants value for the money out of them. Ah well, I will have yet another pair of tyres hanging up in my garage, as they still have at least 5,000 kms in them. I will order adventure tyres tomorrow, although I will only fit them just prior to the Training course. TKC80 for the front and, because Anakie Wild's are hard to come by at present, Mitas E07+ on the rear. Let's see what Pablo says.

AuthorDuncan received a new bike from his insurers in June last year. In February 2022 he attended a refresher ADV rider course in preparation for the seven days around Tasmania with some of the usual suspects. Not too much deep sand in Tassie. Good. ArchivesCategories |
